A Late Boomer and Friends Try Out the Acura ILX

I was born in the penultimate year of the baby-boom era, so I realize my impressions of the 2013 Acura ILX are not germane. This Acura is designed to appeal to hip faux-hawked and tattooed Gen Y-ers who have somehow managed to get themselves off the couch and out of the coffee shop long enough to amass the kind of wealth and income it takes to lay down roughly 30-large on a car. So when it came time to pair up for the ride-n-drive, I latched on to the youngest guy in the room — 22-year-old Joe Gustafson of Bullz-eye.com (full disclosure — Joe’s hair is normal, and no tattoos show, wearing normal clothes).

A Late Boomer and Friends Try Out the Acura ILX imageRight off the bat, Joe expressed reservations over the car’s pleasant but ho-hum exterior design. His generation likes to draw some attention with its wheels (and hairdos and body art, presumably), and this one didn’t seem to be drawing any. Not that it matters, but I’m right there with him on that assessment. The interior’s buttony center-stack and traditional forms didn’t move our gee-whiz meters much either — especially when rendered in monotone black. More manufacturers are taking risks with interior design, and cars aimed at youthful audiences are the canvasses on which to try such new things (see the 2013 Dodge Dart). This made us wonder if the youth-marketing target was baked in from the start or added on during the car’s roll-out.

We started out in the ILX Hybrid and were both disappointed in the way the Acura’s engine impersonated some far less happy mill, moaning under the whip. The only real hyper-miler coaching aid provided is a little green ball display between the gauges, whose diameter varies with pedal position — great big for good-boy coasting, a virtual pinpoint when at full moan. Even with the much-ballyhooed extra sound deadening and dual-rate amplitude-sensitive shocks, small inputs generated a loud report that may have tricked our ears into thinking the car rode rougher than it did. Our test car included the $5500 tech package (heated leather seats, a bunch of amenities, plus navigation and the ELS stereo), which brings the price to $35,295. That struck Joe as a total no-sale. Me too.

A Late Boomer and Friends Try Out the Acura ILX imageNext up we strapped into the rip-snorting 2.4-liter (a more palatable $30,095), which only comes with a 6-speed manual. Ah, there’s the joyful noise we expect from a Honda! It’s so intoxicating that one feels compelled to wind it out to 7000 rpm wherever space permits. The shifter also feels sublime. Suspension tuning is virtually unchanged, but it seems more appropriate in this bad-boy version. But here we both wondered how old the guys were that decided our target young folks wouldn’t want the kickin’ ELS stereo in the hotrod model? (It’s unavailable.)

We ended the day in the mainstream 2.0-liter and were relieved to find that it also sounded sweet enough to trick the ear into thinking the acceleration was better than it is. Of course, its acceleration would BE stronger than it is if the antique five-speed transmission could grow an extra cog or two with closer spacing at the low end. My take: Stick with the base cloth seat ILX at the $26,795 base price, and convince yourself that the caliper badge and its attendant resale value and quality reputation more than counterbalance the 30 extra direct-injected horses, leather seats, and 6-speed you’d get for the same money in a Buick Verano. It sounded like Joe and his pals (if they were spending $30K on cars, which he says they’re not) would much sooner be trolling Craigslist for off-lease BMW 328s.

New Jaguar XJ Delayed

Jaguar XJ

The new Jaguar XJ, originally scheduled to be launched in December 2009 has been pushed back to arriving at dealers April 2010, with rumours that it may be delayed further being strenuously denied by executives at Jaguar UK.

The initial postponement of the launch has reportedly been caused by the laudable desire from Jaguar UK to make sure the car is 100% right when first deliveries start. The technical problems have seemed to stem from the increasingly complex electrical system, with software glitches being tricky to track down.

The dual-view display screen is rumoured to be head culprit, which has caused issues in the newly face-lifted Range Rover, and Jaguar are keen to make sure these are all resolved before the first customers receive their gorgeous new cars, after a spate of electrical gremlins plagued early versions of the XK when it was first launched in 2006, something which the manufacturer is keen not to repeat.

We think that this is a great step for Jaguar to take, and we would rather see Jaguar enhancing its fantastic reputation for quality still further with this stunning new car, rather than going for the easy money by launching less than perfect cars a few months to early.

New Jaguar XJ Teaser

Jaguar has started the countdown to the launch of the all new aluminium XJ model, by releasing this teaser shot of the car – see above. Jaguar is expected to bring us a few more pictures from obscure angles before the car is revealed properly in London on the 9th July.

From the picture, we can see that the XJ will abandon many of its current 60′s styling cues and go for a look much closer to the incredibly successful XF model. It should have a much wider grille than the current XF and the headlights will be much sleeker units more akin to those seen on the C-XF concept.

The roofline will be a flowing curvy affair, with the option of a full length panoramic glass sunroof letting plenty of light into what will be a very advanced interior, again taking XF styling and stretching it further, and the rear c-pillars look to be very narrow, with the majority of the metal hidden behind blacked out glass. The XJ may even be a lift back rather than a saloon car – we will have to wait and see!

Jaguar is running their own teaser website which you can keep up to date with the new XJ, and your first chance to sit in the car will be at the Frankfurt motorshow in September.

2011 Mitsubishi RVR GT 4WD Review

Striking! That is the first reaction I got the first time I saw the car. I totally love the way the vehicle looks. Looks are probably the first thing that pulls to a car and the moment I saw the styling, I actually forgot I was supposed to review it and not buy it with the car insurance company. The shark look and its short body make the car look a bit mean but at the same time cute. It also has a sporty look to it. It takes no time for the car to grow on you. I just hoped that everything would be as great as the looks of the vehicle.

However, stepping in to the vehicle kind of blew out my bulb- it was a little disappointing. You do not built such a beautiful yet unique exterior and then come up with such a dull interior! Mitsubishi have not deviated from their traditional styling and it looks like every other vehicle. There is a lot of plastic in the vehicle and the basic concept in all Mitsubishi’s can be seen. security bollards

The plus side to all this dull interior is the fact that the design layout is quite simple making all the gadgets and gizmos either to be seen or accessed with ease. It has three simple dials that help in regulation of air and heat in the vehicle. The radio does also have easy, simple buttons to operate it.

Of its looks however, my favorite feature on the car is the huge panoramic sunroof. The sunroof comes as a standard feature and it spans that spans from the front to the rear of the vehicle. This creates an open and yet spacious feeling in the car. At night, cool ambient- not so flashy lighting surrounds the sunroof. The sunroof however, as a downside, does not open at all.

involved in a car accident with non insured driver, what to do?

Car accidents are not uncommon but if you happen to be in a Car accident with non insured driver, the first question that comes up in your mind is: can I claim for compensation? This is a very valid concern on your part as a survey has recently stated that uninsured drivers are up to ten times more likely to drive recklessly causing severe car accidents and other mishaps.

Since, it is unfeasible to determine at the time of the mishap if the other driver is insured or not, it is always advisable to react in a very normal way. However, you should note down the make and model of the other vehicle and its registration number. This will prove helpful in the claim. It is also wise to ask the other driver for his name and address. However the certainty and accurateness of this information may or may not be truthful. Despite it, you jot down every detail you can lay your hands on.

It will be of utter importance to get snapshots and photographic evidence of the accident site and the condition of the other car as this will prevent false allegations and claims on part of the driver at fault. Non insured driver are very apprehensive of police and might disappear out of sight before they appear. Thus it is imperative to keep them in sight.

After you have done this, it is advisable to find an experienced and expert personal injury solicitor who can gauge the severity of the mishap and prepare an apt compensation claim. To claim against Motor Insurers Bureau (MIB) you need a veteran on your side. In such a milieu, contacting experts at Accidents Direct can prove immensely resourceful.
