Design Graduate James Trim’s Aston Martin concept car aims to retain the stylish lines and high performance of the British sports car whilst reducing the environmental impact of these traditional ‘gas guzzlers’.
James’s two-seater Aston Martin Volare incorporates a high power fuel cell stack between the front seats that work with a rear mounted battery pack. The energy powers the wheels through a coaxial electric motor. To balance the weight distribution two hydrogen storage tanks are positioned above the car’s rear axle. Not only does this make the car extra-efficient, there is less hazardous waste to dispose of.
The car maintains the familiar Aston Martin lines but takes on a slightly more rounded appearance at the rear. At the front it displays a striking grille that was inspired by the classic 1977 V8 Vantage. This may just be a concept, but marrying a classic design with eco-credentials brings the green argument to a whole new audience.
