The internet can be used as a great money saving tool. Unfortunately, all good things must have their bad points and the internet is no different. It can also be something that drains you of considerably large sums of money quicker than you can say “what a bargain”. One of the worst ways that the internet can cause you such distress is by making you the victim of an online scam. Every possible online opportunity – from social media websites to lucky prize draws – has been, and will continue to be, ideal bait for internet fraudsters. Now it seems that online scammers are focusing on motorbike retailers as a way of making some easy money.
Fake accounts are being set up on some of the largest online motorcycle retailers and they have already lured many unsuspecting shoppers in to the trap. The scammers are posting motorbike adverts on the websites that are too good to be true – and chances are they probably will be.
All correspondence carried out through these motorbike ads is done through email, with no contact number or address ever given. Once a scammer gets a catch, they will ask for money to be deposited in to a Western European account before the purchase and all relevant paperwork is shipped over. They advise that no money will be transferred until the customer has received their purchase and is completely satisfied. In reality, once any money or bank details are given, you will never receive any further contact from the alleged seller or shipping company.
Luckily such scams are being alerted to the public over time once realised, however you can never fully let your guard down when it comes to online buying. Be wary of any too-good-to-be-true motorbike adverts you might come across and avoid any unnecessary trouble.
